Alex Salmond Takes Charge
After collapsing the Green SNP coalition. Himza Yousaf’s fate now depends on the vote of Ash Regan - only MSP of Salmond’s Alba
Humza Yousaf may be about to end his brief reign as First Minister . The Scottish Conservatives have tabled a vote of no confidence in Humza Yousaf and he might very well lose it, now the Greens are out of the government. They only have 63 MSPs since the former community safety minister Ash Regan MSP defected to Alba. Labour and the Liberal Democrats say they are eager for an early election. So Humza Yousaf may have brought the temple down around his ears.
AT the very least he has put Alex Salmond, his greatest political foe, in charge of his own fate. Now that The Scottish Greens have decided to vote with the Scottish Tories and Labour in next weeks motion of no confidence, the future of the SNP leadership will be decided by the vote of the former SNP community safety minister, Ash Regan, who defected to Salmond’s Alba Party last year. It was an extraordinary conclusion to a day of high drama. It is also the end of the era of cooperative, collegiate SNP-Green government.
