Dogs bark, cats miaow and Labour puts up taxes. That is the mantra that Conservatives have deployed to great effect over the years to warn people against voting for the opposition. And the truth is that the slogan is broadly correct. Social democratic parties like Labour have always tended to prioritise redistribution and public services over so called “supply side” measures like cutting taxes on business to promote growth. Until now. For, it seems that the Labour Party is making a serious attempt to present itself as the party of growth, of the supply side - of, let’s face it, capitalism.
