How much public money will it take to finally sink Ferguson Marine?
Through incompetence and bureaucratic inertia, the Scottish Government has killed the dream of public ownership
Spare a thought for poor Hull 802, rusting in peace at Scotland’s only civil ship-builders, Ferguson Marine, at Port Glasgow on the Clyde. Had the yard not been nationalised it would have been put out of its misery years ago. Its twin, the Glen Sannox, christened by Nicola Sturgeon in 2017, has yet to be launched but it looks like it might some day sail to the rescue of Scotland’s island communities. But Hull 802? Basket case say civil servants. Waste of public money.
So why is the “wellbeing economy” minister, Neil Gray, persevering with this floating money pit?
