I still recall the shock when I woke up on that November morning in 2016 to learn that America had elected Donald Trump as president. It was the most disturbing election result in my lifetime and one I never really believed possible. A narcissistic, sociopathic blowhard with authoritarian tendencies and beliefs which were, if not actually racist, profoundly offensive to immigrants had taken power in the world’s greatest democracy.
