I agree with AnneDon - we should be chasing the concept of " Joanne Cherry's amendment that it would be votes for ALL pro-indy parties that would count."
This is what will generate more pressure on Westminster Government (of any colour) to allow a referendum on the subject.
Like all good Scottish football and rugby teams we take it on the chin................and keep trying.........DO NOT GIVE UP.
I disagree with you that a majority of pro-indy votes and seats in a general election could not trigger negotiations if it was stated beforehand. This is how most countries actually gain their independence. The people vote, and a constitutional convention is called, and the debate proceeds from there.
What gives the game away with the SNP is that the leadership refused to allow a vote on Joanne Cherry's amendment that it would be votes for ALL pro-indy parties that would count. This showed that they were trying to blackmail indy voters into keeping them at Westminster. Since they have done nothing to forward the case of independence for 9 years, why would any of us believe they would do so now? They are so in thrall to Westminster that they are ignoring the sovereignty of the people of Scotland.
Since Westminster party leaders have repeatedly refused to provide a democratic route for the people of Scotland to gain our independence, the UN could have been invoked years ago if the SNP really had the stomach for it. Unfortunately, all the careerists and placeholders who joined the Labour Party in Scotland in the past now latch onto the SNP as their gravy bus. And they're quite happy with the status quo.
In my opinion, Labour will gain SNP seats. Not because indy supporters will suddenly vote for Labour, but because (as in GE2017), many indy voters will stay at home.
As a Piece of Entertainment. I was at the Royal Highland Show today and happened to pass the Scottish Conservative & Unionist Party Tent. This was a small marquee with no floor, just grass, two tables at the front, 3 people and about a dozen leaflets. They have given up !
A wry smile at that one, Iain, then I realised you were being sarcastic! Swinney simply made a fool of himself yesterday. Start negotiations with us to break up the UK - but send us more money first! Clown.
The SNP seems incapable of understanding what a ‘general election’ is. The clue is in the name.
They refuse to accept that the constitution is *reserved*, and that therefore, Holyrood has no locus in it.
