The prospects of an independent Scotland with a hard border with England are too awful to contemplate, Iain. Thank you for detailing them.
I’m delighted that Lorna Slater has been exposed as the incompetent she is. The UK welcomed her and she spends her time trying to destroy it. Fortunately she’s as useless at this - and everything else - as Youseless is.
If - that's a big If these days - Scotland does regain her independence we must surely have (yet another) referendum on membership of the EU. The SNP blithely assumed we should re-enter - no matter what terms are imposed by the EU - but we surely need to have a grown-up discussion about the pros and cons of EU membership and a subsequent vote, if we're capable of that. Another big if...
I totally agree. And it takes years to join, even if we want to. Better to join EFTA and see how the land lies from a position of (relative) strength. And a position of experience as a trading nation. We can join EFTA in a few months after independence.
Hmm, I think that, post-indy, we can get around the problems of the border by creating a common travel area with the rest of the UK, then joining EFTA, which we can do within a few months. Re-joining the EU, if the Scottish people decide to do so, would take five years anyway, so there would have to be interim arrangements.
As regards the DRS scheme, this is another example of the Greens putting ideology above practicality. They are like a bunch of students with no actual life experience, sitting in the back room of the pub telling each other how right on they are. But now some idiot in the Scottish Govt has given them actual power and they're creating havoc in ordinary peoples' lives and communities.
Independence would have been so easy before Brexit. I personally know bankers and other wealthy people who were entirely relaxed about it- join the euro, all good.
As you say, it’s impossible now- at least until Westminster accepts the inevitable and at least joins EFTA.

Iain, I'm not liking you using that "separatism" word. Leave that to the extremists. You're better than that.
