If VAT is imposed on private school fees private schools will be able to reclaim input VAT on every item of Capital Expenditure over the previous 4 years. Every school will receive a immediate refund.

My withers are unwrung by the plights of non-doms and private schools. However, the willingness of the Labour party to shaft the working classes as much as the Tories do is a real concern.

Labour under Jeremy Corbyn were financially independent because he inspired so many people to join the party that their membership subs cleared Labour's debts. Starmer has driven them all out again. Collapsing their income like that doesn't give me any faith in Labour's fiscal competence, but what do I know? Perhaps showing your nice suit and shiny white teeth on television will be enough to make up for all the activists who used to pound the pavements for you, actually talking to voters.

I think the SNP and Labour will test the limits of that theory to destruction at the next General Election.

Labour under Jeremy Corbyn were unelectable.

Trouble is, Iain, we need Labour in power and for Scotland to have put them there. Without that it’s back to year upon year of promising indyref2 but abandoning the face painters at the top of that hill over and over again. Time to kick the nationalists out once and for all.

And why would anyone that wants a positive future for Scotland vote for any of the BritNat parties?

You reckon it has a positive future at the moment with the ScotNats in power?

Yip! Because Sarwar will be a mere Branch Manager / Puppet taking orders from London. BTW there is no separate entity called Scottish Labour, it's only branding.

It’ll do for me. The Nats have ruined every single thing they’ve touched since they came to power.

Why do you think the indy question remains so close? Because the Nats have failed to convince people who see what a state our country is in. Labour may not be the answer long term but they’ll do to get rid of these grievance-mongering incompetents.

Scottish MPs have never been required to put Labour in power. It's a myth to guilt-trip us into voting Labour, but (other than 1976, when you could say the same about Welsh Labour MPs or SDLP MPs) Labour would have won the elections it won without Scottish MPs.

Methinks you’ve been following the ‘Rev’ Campbell a bit too much! Of course Labour needs a good result in Scotland.

They never have before. All you have to do is look at the figures. And since Labour reduced the number of Scottish MPs from 72 to 59, we've become even less important, whatever Starmer says.

You’re telling me that Scottish Labour winning 30-40 seats (up from 2) won’t help then into Downing Street?!

It might help them, but if you look at the elections they have won in the past, they have won by majorities far greater than the number of Scottish Labour MPs. If England votes Labour, we get a Labour govt. If they vote Tory, we get a Tory govt. When they couldn't decide in 2010, we got a coalition govt. In all those situations, Scotland voted Labour. And it didn't matter a jot.

You keep telling yourself that.
